My Interpretation

Paulo Coelho is a gifted storyteller. His ethereal writings never fail to seize the heart, soul and mind of the readers. His books are not just mere works of philosophy but with his every book, he weaves a world. A beautiful, divine world that contains deeper meaning of life. A world that forces the readers to ponder over love and hate, truth and lie and above all, the Almighty.

His books are open for interpretation. He does not force his ideas on you but allows you to ponder over the incidents in the story, reflect over them and interpret them yourself.

And here is my interpretation of one of his bestseller novels- The Fifth Mountain!

The book opens with the most startling thought — “I have served a Lord who has now abandoned me into the hands of my enemies.”

So many times, in our lives have we blamed God for our troubled circumstances. So many times, in our lives have complained to him about our hapless conditions.

Why does God bring such misfortune to his children?

This book has the answer. Through the mystical journey of Elijah, the prophet, Coelho attempts to make us understand that Tragedies are blessings in disguise. The thorns in our journey are meant to make us stronger. We, though, can neither avoid the tribulations in our lives nor we can control the outcomes, but at least, we can decide how to react. It’s totally our choice either to lose hope and weep or to fight valiantly like a warrior. And as Elijah says” All life battles teach us something even if we lose”.

Walk in the direction of your desire, accept the challenges emanated from life courteously before it stops challenging you!
